Tumor Inhibitory Effect of ¥â-Lipoprotein-like Substance Extracted from Bovine Organs

Abstract
Since it has been reported that serum fl-lipoprotein might exert inhibitory effect on the growth of transplanted tumor tissue, the author has carried out, in the present paper, an experiment on the effect brought by the cytoplasmic dextran sulfate(DS) precipitate obtained from various bovine organs under the presence of calcium chloride, in order to elucidate whether or not, there is, if any, a substance equivalent to tissue factor exerting inhibitory action on the tumor growth in association with lipoprotein.
Mice are used as experimental animals, transplanted with the Ehrlich Cancer and Sarcoma 180 cells; And the dextran sulfate precipitate obtained from the 27,000xg supernatants of bovine organs were administered to the tumor bearing animals.
With the liver DS precipitates of 0.8, 1.6, and 3.2 mg concentrations administered to the tumor bearing animals, statistically significant regression of the tumor growth was observed. With the kidney DS precipitates of 1.2 and 2.4 mg concentrations, the same effect was observed.
Also with the spleen, and jejunum DS precipitates of 1.2 mg concentration, similar results were observed.
The DS precipitate extracted from bovine organs might, therefore, be considered as one of the serum j3-lipoprotein-like tumor inhibitory factors as previously reported.
